CarCave will sponsor 4 Belgian teams in the Monte Carlo Historic rally. And Roel Geraerts and Patrick Snijers will lead the way as ‘ouvreur’ in a Volvo Polestar S60. The 4 teams are experienced drivers with healthy ambitions. Since the Monte Carlo Historic rally is a regularity rally, it will take both skilled driving, and some luck to get a good result. CarCave will try to be the teams’ lucky charm in the S60 Polestar.
Snijers and Geraerts will be leading the way for these four teams:
Michel de Cremer and Yannick Lambert, who finished 4th last year, driving an Opel Ascona 400 replica;
Pat Lambert, who will enter for the 19th time, and Anna Sylvan, in a Fiat Moretti 850;
Kurt Declerck and Steven Vyncke, in a Porsche 914;
Stoffel Mulier and Chris Goris, in the Volvo Amazon 123 GT.
Stoffel Mulier is a Volvo lover to the core. Last year he entered the Monte Carlo Historic Rally for the first time in the Amazon 123 GT. They placed among the first 100. This year, he hopes to rank much higher. That is why Patrick Snijers and Roel Geraerts will be acting as ‘ouvreur’. This means they will scout the stages and assess the circumstances. The Monte Carlo Historic Rally is known for its treacherous roads, especially the Col de Turini. Snijers is a 7-time Belgian and European champion and has several WRC rallies under his belt. He finished sixth in Monte Carlo in 1989. And he was ‘ouvreur’ for Juha Kankunnen at one point. Plenty of experience.
Volvo supplied CarCave and Patrick with a Volvo S60 Polestar, with 367 horsepower and four wheel drive. There is exactly 50 years between the S60 Polestar and the Amazon 123 GT. The Amazon has 115 horsepower and an 1800 engine. It was built in Gent in 1967.
Stoffel and Chris will be driving to Reims from Leuven on the 26th, for the technical controls. They will drive the first stage on the 27th, starting at 19h00 and driving to Monte Carlo.
